May Monster Madness 2016

Ah yes, Memorial Day weekend the official kick-off to summer! And what better way to honor May Monster Madness by looking at a true monster the "Great White"! Thanks so Steven Spielberg's Jaw's the Shark has become a Classic Monster Icon. But not all the shark movies hold up right? I'm mean Sharknado is fun but that is about it. So join me will you as we look at a few sharks in the movies.

Did any other movie scare the pants off you like Jaws did? And we are always happy to sit back and watch it again and again. I just might have my young ones watch this with me this summer.

Dollar Tree finds!

Not much this week mainly trades from Swapadvd.com and the Doller Tree has Blu's for a buck...

Amongst those Blu-Rays was Darkman and the DVD Arctic Blast. The Wraith game from swap but it was kind of gross so I'm pretty bummed about that one. Also from Swap I picked up.....

R.I.P. Joe Fleishaker

It was such a bummer to read about Joe Fleishaker passing today. You might not recognize his name but you surely can not forget that face! Fleishaker starred in MANY Troma classics including The Toxic Avenger franchise, Poultrygeist, Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., Terror Firmer, and Tromeo and Juliet. Throughout his career, Joe could be seen working with and helping to develop talented individuals that have gone on to have some incredible careers.

Billed as "Troma's biggest action star" by company co-founder Lloyd Kaufman, died Monday at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, his brother, Haskel. He was 62. He was a heavy set man reaching 500 plus after his first heart attack he went into rehab to lose more than 150 pounds.

I meet Joe a few years back while he was working the Troma booth, a Nice guy who loved talking to the fans as much as we loved talking to him. He will be missed, Rest in Peace Joe, Rest in Peace!

Geocaching

Ever since we had the Little Free Library go up in our front yard a new world was opened up to us. One day we watched a father and daughter checking out our box but not really looking at the books instead they picked up a fake rock that somebody had but down.

They took the rock back to the car played with it for a few minutes and then but it back. Well, I had no clue what was going on so when they drove off and the coast was clear I went outside to investigate. I did not get it at first I opened the fake rock to see a list of names? Odd plain old odd. Then it hit me it is a Geocash!

So after looking into a little bit more yes we found out our little Library was on the Geocaching map! How cool is this? SO yesterday was my first day off since the girls have been out of school so they asked if we could try it out.

First, few we did were pretty easy of course the one in front of our house the other Little Library in town (yes we help with that one as well) and the Hegeler Carus Mansion. But then we had trouble finding one at a dentist office that has messaged me back saying it is still there to please try again which we will soon and the other is the train car in the video we have below. Those are hard!! We found one more before we headed home.

So why not Geocash it is pretty cool and takes you to place's you may have never explored before. I can see us doing this a few more times this summer and fall those die hards out there do it all year long!!

So have you ever Geocashed? Did you find it fun? Let us know in the comments below.

It's an almighty laugh!

Thinking it to be a hoax he tosses it away, but when it keeps reappearing he finally gives in. Skeptical at first, he ends up carrying His personal message - that the world can work with what God's given us.

I have been looking forward to jumping into this DVD when I bought it earlier this year. Many questions would need to be answered. Was this as good as I remember? Will it hold up after almost 40 years? Well, let us dive in and see shall we?

(Don't say it, hiss it)

Guitar Hero

So after picking up all those Disney Infinity figures Ella decided she wanted to try her luck at Guitar Hero. Now I know how hard this game is I'm not a fan of it, to be honest, but it sits in the corner collecting dust so way not. First tho we opened the game disk and it was the wrong one! It was for High School Musical that we sold the pad and game (so we thought) at a garage sale a few years ago. I kind of feel bad the little girl was probably upset when she got home. So back to the game, I knew this was going to be fun so I did a little bit of video for you to enjoy!

Waffle Ninja

Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea

Written By: Ben Clanton

Narwhal is a happy-go-lucky narwhal. Jelly is a no-nonsense jellyfish. The two might not have a lot in common, but they do they love waffles, parties, and adventures. Join Narwhal and Jelly as they discover the whole wide ocean together.

A wonderfully silly early graphic novel series featuring three stories. In the first, Jelly learns that Narwhal is a really good friend. Then Narwhal and Jelly form their own pod of awesomeness with their ocean friends. And finally, Narwhal and Jelly read the best book ever -- even though it doesn't have any words...or pictures!

Ben Clanton showcases the joys of friendship, the benefits of working together and the power of imagination in the delightful Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea.

We received Narwhal Unicorn of the Sea from NetGalley in return for an honest review of the book. And I must say WAFFLE NINJA this is a super fun read. If you have ever read Piggie and Elephant's adventures  by Mo Williams you will love Narwhal and Jelly! IF the pictures do not put a great big goofy grin on your face the writing sure will. This had both girls laughing to the point that they had to read it again. In fact, Lainey just came in and asked for the Ipad so she could read it tonight. It is just that much fun.

Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea does not come out until October 4th but I guarantee if you see it on the bookstore stands you will want to pick it up and give it a quick glance because I know you will want to bring this one home. My only regret would be that my girls are older now so I could not read to them with silly voices.

Best Pick Up week this year!!

Some pretty darn good scores this week. First, our second-hand store ran a VHS sale of 5 for a dollar so you know this goofball picked up a few of those. Also picked up about 20 kid books for our Little Free Library just to keep things fresh. They sell most of their kid books for a dime and I focused in on the 1/2 price books just so I could make my dollar stretch.

I can never pass up on Disney classic TV shows that you can no longer watch and that have never been on DVD yet. We already watched Aladdin and loved it. The value for Team Genie is around 4 to 5 bucks. Sing along Songs are always fun and it worth $10. Timon & Pumbaa will be watched soon and could fetch anywhere from $4 to $50 on Ebay so not a bad score there.

Free Comic Book Day

Wow so #FCBD came and went. It was such a crazy weekend but we made it to Metropolis Comics in time to pick up a few new books. I have not missed one of these yet almost did last year but made it just as the books dwindled.

We also made it in time to for the girls to get photographed by the local newspaper. It happened around the time that the owner was helping the girls find something new to read.

#fcbd

A boy with Dyslexia

Knees

Written By: Vanita Oelschlager

Illustrator: Joe Rossi

Publisher: VanitaBooks

I know that I have not written a book review in a very long time. But after reading this book I just have to get the word out.

Knees: The Mixed-Up World of a Boy with Dyslexia is a good books for kids dealing with dyslexia and for those who do not. In simple terms, the author explains what life is like for a child with dyslexia. Louis narrates and lets readers know what his life is like with dyslexia. From backward letters and numbers to words jumbling in the air and falling into his ear messed up and difficult to understand, Louis has a challenging life.

The book is simple yet gets the point across in a very brilliant way. The illustrations are very simple and not too confusing for somebody like me that suffers from Dyslexia.

For those of you that have been coming to my blog for the past few years may have noticed a difference in my writing. I suffer from Dyslexia and this blog has made me better. I do not jumble my words as much I take a little more time to write what I'm thinking and my grammar has gottin' ( yes that last word was a joke). I love to read and write it just takes me much longer than most people. That's why sometimes my review are all over the place. It use to scare me to write down my thoughts but in the end, it has made me better.

This book really tells a good tale and no matter how bad it is or how bad it can get you will always find something your good at.

I highly recommend this book especially if you have a child that is suffering from this disease.

Facts about me you did not know:

I use Siri when I really get stuck on a word.

It takes me 30 to 40 minutes to read ten pages. Where my wife can read a 300-page book in a day or two. And my girls are great readers.

I love to read as much as I love to watch movies it just takes me longer and I don't mind.

When I was younger I almost gave up on reading. I remember the day my dad looked at me and said just find something you enjoy to read. So he bought me a few comic books and a Sports Magazine and told me this is reading despite what people might say. He was right and thanks to him I still read.

I struggled in school due to my Dyslexia so much I hated going yet I loved school. I did not find my place in the school system until I went to high school.

But look at me now I'm having fun and enjoying my life. I still love to read comic's and magazines as well as books. We go to the summer reading program every year. And we have a Little Free Library in our yard.

I'm currently reading Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars and I promise I will finish it and write about it soon.

Well, I did it I finally watched all 10 Puppet Master Movies to date. Well, except the one that Charles Band does not call a puppet master movie that being Puppet Master vs Dominic Toys that played on the Sci-Fi Channel a few years back. Halloween Mask

Updated added more pictures.

So I'm looking for a little help on this one. I picked this mask up at a school rummage sale last week. It is so bazaar and yet fascinating yet I have no clue where or what it is from. So I turn to you my blogger friends if you have any clues please let me know. Here are a few more pictures of the mask it has no markings or writing of any kind making it very hard to figure out.

So the other night I was having trouble sleeping and flipped on Netflix. I'm in no way a binge watcher but I was looking for something to bore the crap out of me so I would fall asleep. I saw Sam Elliott attached to a show that looked like a western but with Ashton Kutcher. The run time was only 30 minutes for the fist show so I clicked it. I was not expecting much but in return received a gut busting laugh out loud show about not growing up!

A. Edward Sutherland

Writers:
Philip Wylie
Seton I. Miller

Stars:
Charles Ruggles

Eric Gorman returns with his wife Evelyn from a trip to the Orient collecting zoo animals, having killed a member of his expedition who happened one day to kiss Mrs. Gorman. On board ship, Evelyn meets Roger Hewitt, who falls in love with her. After delivering his animals to the zoo, Gorman plots a way to dispose of Hewitt using one of his latest specimens, then continues using the zoo's non-human residents to do his beastly work.

Paramount Pictures follow-up to  Island of Lost Souls, Murders in the Zoo deserves to be placed alongside other studio and independent horror productions of the period such as Freaks (1932), White Zombie (1932), and Mad Love (1935). It boasts stylish art deco design, atmospheric cinematography, several tense murder scenes, and above all, a standout performance by Lionel Atwill as an outrageously sadistic and callous killer.

Hope you had a great 4th!

Zingers!

Oh, Charlie Brown how I loved getting your Zingers in my school lunch! Sure the rich kids were eating those Twinkies things but I had my peanuts gang to keep me happy. And when mom would pack in those wonderful Red Raspberry flavored coconut zingers it would be the first think I ate.

Dolly Madison also made cream filled pies that I would get to buy later in life with my own money and I have to say to this day I still crave the coconut cream pie! That thing rocked my socks off. It's too bad Hostess as cut so many corners that these snack treats are just not the same anymore.

So which was your favorite flavor? Did you eat Dolly Madison or where you a Hostess kind of kid? And did you make it through the A to Z challenge? Sure I struggled a bit this year with the first communion slowing me down but I still had fun and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year. Thanks to everyone that has stopped by. If you are looking for a different kind of goofy nerd filled blog give me a follow! And thanks again.
